In working with international databases, besides the research part, it is crucial to pay attention to technical nuances. The main one is working with the author's profile. The Scientific Publications company offers an in-depth consideration of the main points when creating and displaying an identifier with a Scopus Author ID.
Scopus Author ID: how to obtain it?
The author's profile in Scopus is generated automatically on a free basis after the first publication of the study in the journal indexed in the database. There is no other way to get the Scopus Author ID.
After the second publication, the author's Scopus profile is updated, and the researcher has more opportunities to edit the necessary information. The researcher's subsequent studies are integrated into the Scopus Author ID automatically.
Thus, the database solves the problem of identifying authors by assigning each a unique number with eleven digits. The use of such a mechanism helps to correctly display statements about researchers. This is especially important in cases when the database indexes the works of namesake authors, researchers with difficult-to-spell names, and other contact details.
How do to determine the Scopus Author ID?
Method 1. Search by author
- Use the "Author Search".
- Enter the author's contact details (first and last name, affiliation organisation of the researcher).
- "Search".
- Select the required author profile from the list of found ones by clicking on the name of the researcher.
- Information about the Scopus Author ID will be displayed in the profile.
Method 2. Search by author (Scopus Preview)
If researchers do not have access to the full version of Scopus, the ID will not be displayed in the author's profile. In this case, it is necessary to perform 1-5 points of Method 1 and pay attention to the URL of the page.
At the end of the link in the format AuthorID=XXXXXXXXXX, the unique identifier of the researcher will be displayed.
Method 3. Search by ORCID
This method can be used regardless of access to the platform. However, it is worth considering that for this type of search it is required to know the exact number of the researcher's ORCID identifier and be sure that it is integrated into the Scopus profile.
Previously, Scientific Publications shared step-by-step instructions for integrating ORCID and Scopus Author ID.
To search for Scopus Author ID by ORCID, you can use the instructions described in Method 1, but instead of the author's contact details (point 2), enter one's ORCID identifier:
Method 4. Search by publication in Scopus
This method is suitable if the user of the platform knows the name of the work of a particular author. Thus, the source is searched first, and only then you can go to the author's profile.
- Use the "Document Search" in Scopus.
- Enter the necessary data for the search.
- Click "Search".
- Select the required publication from the list.
- In addition, you can immediately select the author of interest.
- If you do point 4, you will get to the publication page, on which information about the authors is indicated.
- Select the author's name and click on "View full profile" to go to the researcher's profile in Scopus.
- By clicking on the author's name (point 5 or point 6-7), the user will be redirected to the author's profile of the researcher, where the Scopus Author ID is indicated.
Please note that this search option is possible only if you have full access to Scopus.
