The NHR international ranking assesses and compares the scientific performance of universities, research institutions and individual scientists. The National H-index Ranking has presented updated data for the fourth quarter of 2025. In this article, we will tell you which Kazakhstani educational and scientific institutions have received the highest positions, and we will also review how their scientometrics indicators have changed compared to the previous update.

National H-index Ranking
The National H-index Ranking is an independent international ranking that assesses the scientific performance of institutions, scientific organisations and individual scientists within a country. The key indicator used to determine the position of participants is the Hirsch index (h-index).
Kazakh National H-index Ranking
The Kazakh National H-index Ranking evaluates the scientific activity of Kazakh scientists, research teams and scientific institutions based on indicators from leading international databases – Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar.
This ranking serves as a tool for stimulating scientific activity: it encourages researchers to improve their performance, strengthens their scientific authority and contributes to the development of the organisations in which they work. In addition, the existence of such a ranking expands opportunities for international scientific partnerships and strengthens the position of Kazakhstani science at the global level. Its formation and gradual development are of great importance for the country's scientific community, as they allow it to present its results on the international arena.

It is only possible to improve one's position in the National H-index Ranking by increasing one's own h-index. This can be achieved by publishing research that is scientifically novel, relevant and attracts the attention of the professional community, as it is the number of citations that directly influences the Hirsch index. It is best to focus on journals with a high reputation and strong scientometrics characteristics (impact factor, quartile, percentile, etc.).
In the long term, the growth of such indicators in international rankings contributes to attracting funding, supporting young scientists, expanding partnerships with leading global researchers, and increasing the competitiveness of educational institutions.
