Web of Science is one of the most prestigious databases in the world. Let's see how to create a scientist's profile in Web of Science and its main functions.

Web of Science (WoS) covers thousands of scientific materials, and every scientist strives to publish and index his research in this database. In many countries, publication in WoS is a requirement for obtaining scientific degrees and titles.
WoS is used to track, compare and evaluate scientific research. Users can access information about scientific materials (articles, journals, books, etc.), including impact factor, Hirsch index and other indicators. Creating a profile in WoS is an important step for scientists looking to increase their visibility in the scientific community.
How to create a profile in Web of Science?
In order to create a profile, there are several steps to follow. The first step is to register on the Web of Science website. Click on the "Sign In" button at the top right corner of the page.

What information is required to register with Web of Science?
- Email address.
- Password.
- Password confirmation.
- First name.
- Last name.
- Code.
- Accept the terms of use of the platform and click the "Register" button.
After successful registration you will receive a confirmation email. Follow the link in the email to activate your account.
The registration process is not complicated and takes a few minutes. After activation you will be able to log in.

To log in, you need to enter:
- The email address to which the account was registered on the platform.
- Password.
- The last step is to log in.
Congratulations, you now have a profile on the Web of Science platform!

Once you have successfully registered on the platform, the system will automatically pull up some scientific papers that may have been written by you. Select publications that you have authored to add them to your profile. If you don't see some of your works in the suggested list, you need to make the search more precise by providing more email addresses that you have published, or add publications manually in another way.

- You can immediately select whether you have written all or none of the suggested articles.
- You can mark next to each document that the work belongs to you.
- Results Clarification.
The results refinement column allows you to conduct either an advanced or a more precise search for the author's work. Here you can select specific years, educational and scientific institutions, and different name options.
What does an author's Web of Science profile look like?

1. Published names. The author's names as they appear in their publications.
2. Organisations. This is a list of organisations that the researcher has collaborated with in their Core Collection publications. This does not reflect his or her employment history.
3. Subject Categories. The author's subject categories cover the range of research areas in which the author is active and interested.
4. Awards.
5. Other identifiers. An author can connect their ORCID to their profile to enable two-way synchronisation.
6. Metrics. The main scientometric metrics are displayed on the right side of the author's profile.
7 Metrics dashboard. The metrics from the Web of Science Core Collection include number of citations, publications, and Hirsch index. Such a panel has the following view:

8. Characterisation of Science Metrics. The purpose of this button is to provide an overview of the scientific metrics included in the author profile.
9. Main Metrics. The author's main scientific metrics are presented here, including Hirsch index, number of publications, number of citations and cited papers, and the like.

1. Papers. All of the author's published scientific papers that are indexed in the Web of Science database are presented here.
2. Sorting. In the author's profile you can sort the submitted papers by date (from newer to older) or by citation (from most cited to least cited).
Also, profile owners always have the possibility to edit their data and information.

- Edit profile.

When editing a profile, the author has the option to add or change:
- Own photo.
- Author's name.
- Published names.
- The main organisation.
- History of the organisation.
The Web of Science platform has an automatic profile update feature that can be turned on or off when editing a profile, allowing you to conveniently manage information updates.

In April 2023, Web of Science introduced automatic profile updates for its researchers. WoS now automatically updates the list of publications and preprints of authors.
It is not difficult to register and create a profile in the international database Web of Science. It is important to enter the correct information. It is recommended to regularly check the materials in your profile, as sometimes studies that are not relevant to you may be added automatically due to the coincidence of surnames, first names or initials.
